CAMPIONE D’ITALIA! Eruption of joy at PalaEvangelisti, Perugia win historical Scudetto (VIDEO)

The 2017/18 season will be forever engraved in memories of Sir Safety Conad Perugia fans. After clinching trophies in the national Supercup and cup, came the most valuable one – in the national championship SuperLega – also known as Scudetto! All three titles were first-ever for Perugia in each of the tournaments.

In a decisive Game 5 of the 2017/18 playoff finals, the top-seed Perugia swept No.2 and also defending champions Cucine Lube Civitanova by a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 27-25), sealing the series by a 3-2.

Practically, Lube did not stand a chance in the match with the exception of the opening set, in which they had 18-15. Ivan Zaytsev closed the game with a hit that was blocked out of bounds, causing an unseen eruption of joy on the packed stands (3,300 fans) at PalaEvangelisti.

The Serbian Aleksandar Atanasijević topped Perugia with 17 points. The Bulgarian Tsvetan Sokolov scored 18 points for Lube.
